"Saddle Up for St. Jude's Kids" Equestrian Trail Ride

Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 9AM

The Frontier Co-op in Lebanon will host "Saddle Up for St. Jude's Kids", an equestrian trail ride from Thorntown to Lebanon on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 9AM, starting at the corner of Serum Plant Road and Hazelrigg Road. This event will be a fundraiser for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and will also raise awareness for the Farm Heritage Trail project. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. St. Jude scientists and physicians are working side-by-side seeking treatment, causes, cures, and prevention of leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, sickle-cell anemia, pediatric AIDS and other life threatening diseases.

The ride will start south of Thorntown (located northwest of Lebanon, Indiana in Boone County) and head towards Hazelrigg and Lebanon along a former railbed, which is a section of the proposed Farm Heritage Trail. The ride will be about 10 miles total. An Indiana Farm Bureau director is supporting the event by providing an adjacent field for horse trailer parking and will have water available at a nearby barn. Riders will get a special preview of this future hiking, biking and horse trail, intended to highlight central Indiana's rich agricultural heritage while enhancing regional tourism and economic development. Currently the non-profit group Friends of Boone County Trails is seeking funds to purchase and develop this trail, which is on loan for the St. Jude's ride only and is not open to the public.

Participants are asked to get sponsors to support St. Jude's Children Hospital. For more information or to pre-register please call Lori Stover at Frontier Co-op 765-482-0130 or 1-800-752-0603. Forms are available at the Frontier Farm Store in Lebanon. More information on the Farm Heritage Trail can be found at www.farmheritagetrail.org or by contacting Kevin Heber at kevin@indianatrails.org or 317-410-0755.
