A program that encourages reading for students in grades 1 - 4. Participants may share a book with a furry, four-legged friend from TheraPets of Indiana on the first Tuesday of each month. The certified therapy dogs help create a safe environment for children as they read aloud and practice their reading skills. Space is limited.

Youth groups must have an adult advisor and a not-for-profit sponsor, which may be a school, church, youth-serving or community agency. Any youth group interested in applying should attend a Grant Workshop along with their adult leader to receive information and a grant application. The group should have at least 2-3 youth representatives attend the workshop, in addition to the adult leader. The workshops will include suggestions for project ideas and project budgets as well as information about what board members look for in a grant proposal. - Friends of the Library Meeting from 10 am – noon at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). Members and non-members alike are welcome to attend this quarterly meeting of the Friends of the Library. Discover what this group of quiet heroes is all about and you may just want to join in the fun. Since 1978, the Library Friends have donated over $120,000 to help fund Library programs and materials for all ages. These volunteers have served to collectively make this Library a special destination for all residents. Registration is not required.

- Chocoholic Ecstasy - a chocolate tasting event from 12 to 3pm hosted by the Auxiliary of the Zionsville Legion Post #79 (9950 E. 600S Zionsville just north of Boone Village). Participants will join Librarian Laura to discuss One Crazy Summer by Rita William during this first in a series of Tuesday afternoon Mock Newbery Book Discussions. Each event will feature a book that has received rave reviews and was chosen for consideration by the Library’s Mock Newbery Committee. Sessions will continue October 5 and 19.
