Zionsville Little League Baseball and Softball Teams Place First and Second in First District 8 President's Cup Tournament
The Zionsville Major A Giants, sponsored by J.M. McCormick, won first place in the baseball tourney, and the Zionsville Major A softball team sponsored by Carmel Pediatrics was the runner up in the softball tourney in the first ever District 8 President's Cup Tournament.
The event which began Memorial Day weekend and ended with the Championship game on Saturday, June 5, 2004, consisted of two tournaments (one for baseball and one for softball) in which the regular season teams in Little League District 8 participated.
The President's Cup tourney for baseball started with 48 teams representing 10 different District 8 Leagues. The participating leagues included: Broad Ripple Haverford, Brownsburg, Danville, Frederick Douglass, Eagle Creek, Fall Creek, Pittsboro, Plainfield, St. Albans, and Zionsville. Four of the eight Zionsville teams advanced to the Final Eight with only the Giants making the final four.
The President's Cup tourney for softball started with 16 teams from six leagues: Broad Ripple Haverford, Brownsburg, St. Albans, Eagle Creek, Pittsboro, and Zionsville. Zionsville had five softball teams out of the 16 that participated in the tournament. Two Zionsville teams and two Brownsburg team made it to the Final Four.
