Blue Jays Win ZLL 2006 Major A Championship
On Tuesday, June 27 the Blue Jays, sponsored by St. Vincent Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons, defeated the Bearable Grin Marlins by a score of 5-4 to win the Zionsville Little League 2006 Major A Division Championship. The Blue Jays advanced to the finals by winning three consecutive games in the double elimination tournament. The Marlins arrived after losing their first tournament game and fighting back to reach the finals; in fact, defeating the Blue Jays in the first championship round game postponed midway through the game due to rain from Monday, June 26. But, the Blue Jays did not allow this defeat to matter and responded with the performance needed to win the championship.
Throughout the season, the Blue Jay team displayed reliable pitching, steady defense and solid hitting which proved to be the difference during tournament play. In advancing to the finals, the Blue Jays threw two shutout pitching performances. Timely defense proved to be a difference in the championship game by making several difficult plays and throwing advancing runners out on the bases. The entire Blue Jays line-up contributed hits during the tournament, with Avery B. and Tyler G. leading the way in the championship game with two hits each, with Avery's including a double.
Following the game each player, coach and parent was proud of the youth baseball accomplishment as Chuck Keraga, ZLL President, presented trophies and medals to the teams and honored the players.
