Library cards are FREE to all residents of Sugar Creek, Washington, and Jefferson townships. Residents of other townships may purchase a card for $116.00 per family per year. The Clinton Twp. trustee will pay the fee for Clinton Twp. residents.  Resident library cards may be used at any Evergreen Indiana participating library.  Western Boone Community Schools students in Harrison and Jackson townships may obtain a student card without payment of a fee.
Services offered:

  • black & white photocopies at $.10 each, color photocopies at $.25 each
  • fax transmissions (send or receive) at $.50 per page
  • loan of VCR player overnight (no charge)
  • loan of DVD player overnight (no charge)
  • loan of overhead projector (no charge)
  • loan of slide projector (no charge)
  • loan of 60" tripod projection screen (no charge)
  • loan of LCD projector (no charge)
  • on-site use of computers with  Office 2007, many CD-ROM discs, many online reference services
  • on-site use of typewriter
  • Internetaccess (see Internet Safety & Acceptable Use Policy) on library’s computers
  • wireless Internet service to your laptop computer (no charge) 
  • online catalog of library's materials and those of other Evergreen Indiana libraries

* Loan periods:

    • Three weeks – books, compact discs, audiobooks
    • One week – videotapes and DVDs (limit of ten videos and ten DVDs per library card), magazines, computer disks, CD-ROM computer programs, select items from genealogy collection
    • One day – equipment
    • Overdue fines – $.25 per day, per item

*Youth Department is on the lower level and includes a wide selection of fiction, non-fiction, picture books, reference, children's magazines, Young Hoosier Book Award and school reading program books. Recreational and educational videos and DVDs for children, as well as audiobooks, are also available. The home school and parent shelf features books and videotapes for adult use and is located in the easy room. 
*Young Adult Reading Room is on the upper level and includes materials in many formats and of interest to ages 11 and up.
*TEEN COUNCIL is a forum geared to serve young adults grades 7–12.  The activities offered give teens the opportunity to have fun at the library and to provide community services, such as presenting dramatic productions and advising the library staff what services and materials they would like to have available
*YOUTH COUNCIL is a forum geared to serve youth in grades 4-6. The activities offered give students the opportunity to have fun at the library and to provide community services.
* A Thorntown Public Library card entitles the holder to use any Evergreen Indiana participating library.  This includes Lebanon, Zionsville, and Colfax libraries.  In addition to visiting Evergreen libraries personally, cardholders may request items through the online catalog or through library staff.  The library also borrows from other libraries using interlibrary loan and a statewide courier service that arrives on Tuesdays; there is no charge for this service.

* Ongoing programs for all ages include youth and adult reading, Taste of Home Sampler (tasting new recipes), Red Hat group, Greeting Cards, and Book Discussion.  There are daily lunch programs for senior citizens.  Other special programs are also offered.  A schedule is available at the library and published in the newsletter of the Friends of Thorntown Public Library, Inc.

* The collection of audiobooks includes mysteries, romances, thrillers, science fiction, biographies, and non-fiction, which may be played on any standard player. The video collection includes current and classic feature films, non-fiction and documentaries, in VHS and DVD formats. Other special collections include: large print books, Christian fiction, westerns, science fiction/fantasy, genealogy, local history and romances. A microfilm reader-printer allows genealogy researchers to purchase a paper copy for $.10 per page.  Computers with CD-RW and CD-ROM are available for searching reference and genealogical record disks and online services.

* Wireless network available 24/7 at library.

* The library delivers books and other materials to individuals who are either permanently or temporarily homebound. Those who are legally blind may sign up for the federal government's Talking Books program. The deaf relay service is used when staff needs to communicate by telephone with the hearing impaired. 

* A FRIENDS OF THE THORNTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY organization has been formed and welcomes new members, even those who cannot be active members. One of its purposes is to provide programs for youth and adults.

* Meeting space is available at Thorntown Public Library.  Reservations maybe made online at http://bccn.boone.in.us/tpl/roomreservation.htm. 

* The library will place personal book orders, usually at a discounted price.
