First Community Church will host a benefit concert on Sunday, August 12 at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Admission is free, with all donations going to Relay for Life and Love, INC. Lebanon residents Teresa and Kristin O Connell, and Tipton residents Robert D. Lee and Spencer Curnutt, will present the musical event. This is the fourth annual benefit concert, with past donations helping Habitat for Humanity, The Caring Center, and Relay for Life.
The concert will feature Broadway, Classical, Patriotic, traditional, and contemporary Christian music. Bob and Teresa perform two-piano piano repertoire, while Spencer and Kristin perform vocal solos and duets.
Relay For Life helps save lives, helps those who have been touched by cancer, and helps empower individuals to fight back against the disease. Every dollar raised makes a difference to people in local communities whose lives are touched by cancer. The Society has contributed to almost every major discovery in cancer research. Millions of lives have been saved as a result. Research the Society has funded is resulting in better ways to prevent, detect, and treat cancer. The American Cancer Society will also continue to exert influence on all levels of government, advocating for stronger policies and enacting legislation that will save lives and conquer cancer.
Love, INC. (Love in the Name of Christ) is a strategy to help Christian churches help their neighbors in need, and is a cooperative effort between churches and community agencies to provide effective help for the disadvantaged. Twenty Boone churches currently participate in Love, INC. They are Bethel Presbyterian, Centenary United Methodist, Dover Christian, Eagle, Elizaville Christian Church, First Church of the Nazarene, First Community Church, Household of Love and Faith, Jamestown United Methodist, Lebanon Christian Church, Lebanon Rock Church, One Way Christian Church, Otterbein UMC, Pleasant View Church, St. Mark s Lutheran, St. Joseph s Catholic Church, Traders Point Christian Church, Trinity Lutheran, Whitestown United Methodist, and TurnPoint Church.
The 2007 benefit concert will also be presented in Tipton on August 5 at 3 pm at West Street Christian Church in Tipton.
