- Paws to Read from 4 - 5 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). A monthly program for children 6 - 10 that encourages reading. Participants may read to a furry, four-legged friend from TheraPets of Indiana on the first Tuesday of each month. The certified therapy dogs help create a safe environment for children as they read aloud and practice their reading skills. Space is limited and registration is required for each program. Take a break, bring a sack lunch and join fellow book lovers to talk about favorite authors and their latest novel. This informal book discussion group meets the second Tuesday of each month. Coffee and treats are provided. Preregistration is not required for this drop-in program.
- Thorntown Walking Tour with architectural historian Glory June Greiff at 6 pm starting at Sugar Creek Art Center (127 S. Pearl Street Thorntown, IN 46071). Cost is $5. How well do you know your town? Stretch your legs and tour. Begin with snacks and a peek at Lynn Dugan's art.
- Youth as Resources Workshop at 6:30 pm at the Thorntown Pubic Library, 124 N. Market St., Thorntown. Information about project funding for Youth as Resources, a program of United Way of Central Indiana. Workshops will help Boone County youth groups apply for grants to design and implement community projectsup to $1,200 is available per grant. YAR provides the project funds for volunteer service projects designed and carried out by youth to serve their community. Due to recent changes at United Way of Central Indiana, Youth as Resources (YAR) is changing the way it delivers grant funding to youth groups. Beginning this fall, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock and Morgan counties will each offer ONE grant cycle per year. The 2009-2010 grant cycle for Boone County will occur this fall. Youth groups that use creativity and energy to meet community needs may apply for funds to cover project expenses, materials, transportation and youth recognition. Up to $1,200 is available per grant. A new Safe Student initiative addressing Teen Suicide, Dating Violence, Drinking & Driving and Internet Safety is supported by Fox 59 and the McCormick Foundation. Youth groups must have an adult advisor and a not-for-profit sponsor, which may be a school, church, youth-serving or community agency. Other workshops will be held on Monday, September 14, 6:30 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 N. - 56th Annual Zionsville Kiwanis Fall Festival Parade “It’s easy being 'Z’green” starts at 10:45 am from Zionsville Community High School. The one mile route proceeds down Mulberry Street to Ash then Main Street, and ends at Pine Street. The Parade is held in association with the Zionsville Lions Club's Fall Festival. - Purdue Intercollegiate Polo Club and the Purdue Club of Boone County present the 5th Annual Purdue Polo Club Match (Purdue vs "IU") at Hickory Hall Polo Club (7545 East 100 North in Whitestown, Indiana). Gates open at noon, and the match begins at 1 pm. Join the Purdue Polo Club for an afternoon of polo, silent auction, tailgating and concessions. - Youth as Resources Workshop at 7 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2625 Elm Swamp Road, Lebanon. Information about project funding for Youth as Resources, a program of United Way of Central Indiana. Workshops will help Boone County youth groups apply for grants to design and implement community projectsup to $1,200 is available per grant. YAR provides the project funds for volunteer service projects designed and carried out by youth to serve their community. Due to recent changes at United Way of Central Indiana, Youth as Resources (YAR) is changing the way it delivers grant funding to youth groups. Beginning this fall, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock and Morgan counties will each offer ONE grant cycle per year. The 2009-2010 grant cycle for Boone County will occur this fall. Youth groups that use creativity and energy to meet community needs may apply for funds to cover project expenses, materials, transportation and youth recognition. Up to $1,200 is available per grant. A new Safe Student initiative addressing Teen Suicide, Dating Violence, Drinking & Driving and Internet Safety is supported by Fox 59 and the McCormick Foundation.
