The American Red Cross invites residents of Boone County to learn more about becoming local disaster relief volunteers. A meeting for people interested in joining the local disaster action team will be held March 29 at 7 p.m. at the American Red Cross Boone County Service Center 127 W. Main Street., Suite 320, in Lebanon.
The meeting will include an introduction to Red Cross disaster services and an overview of volunteer responsibilities in disaster relief functions. Interested individuals also can formally register to become disaster relief volunteers and enroll in training.
The American Red Cross is on-call 24 hours a day to care for victims of disaster in Boone County. Volunteers provide emergency assistance-- such as food, clothing and shelter--to disaster victims; work with families one-on-one to meet their disaster-related needs; operate shelters; and manage various duties associated with a disaster relief operation.
