- AARP Tax-Aide free tax assistance from 1-4 pm in the Lora Hussey and Olive Hoffman Rooms at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). Taxpayers 60 and older, as well as low- and middle-income earners, may visit the library for free income tax help on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations will not be accepted. A list of required documents is available at the teen and adult reference desk or by calling 317-873-8341. This help is available on Thursdays through April 9, 2009.

- Jimmy Durante Fundraiser to benefit the Boone County Special Olympics at and sponsored by the Lebanon Eagles (2140 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, IN 46052). Dinner from 6 to 8pm (Rib Eye Steak or Chicken Dinner for $8includes Baked Potato, Salad Bar and Texas Toast; Kids Dinner for $3includes Hamburger, Chips and dessert). Band (The Tune-O-Matics) from 8pm to midnight. Auction at 9pm. Event is smoke free, but smoking will be allowed in bar or outside. Open to the public and all ages.

- Computer Savvy Seniors from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Cost: $95. A special introductory computer learning program for adults 55 and older. The basics of computers, Microsoft Windows, word processing, internet and e-mail will be covered in a relaxed environment that moves at the participant's pace. Weekly three hour sessions are scheduled each Tuesday from March 24 through May 26 and include new topic introductions and lesson reviews. $95 fee must be paid at registration. - Paws to Read from 4 - 5 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. A monthly program for children 6-10 that encourages reading. Participants may read to a furry, four-legged friend from TheraPets of Indiana on the first Tuesday of each month. The certified therapy dogs help create a safe environment for children as they read aloud and practice their reading skills. Space is limited and registration is required for each program. - Advanced Excel at 6 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Class size is limited to 10 students to ensure individualized instruction. - The Music Group Presents: Spring Awakenings from 7 - 8:30 pm in the Lora Hussey Room at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). Rare classical and jazz recordings, all with the word spring in their title, will be featured during this informal music appreciation event. - Culture at the Creek reception salutes the artists of the Western Boone Community School Corporation at Sugar Creek Art Center (127 South Pearl Street, Thorntown, IN 46071). Meet the student and alumni artists of the Western Boone Community School Corporation at WEBO artists night on Friday night, April 10 from 6 - 9 pm. Live art demonstrations, music, food and fun at the event are all free, and all WEBO artists are encouraged to attend this casual event. The WEBO students and alumni will be the featured artists for the month of April, with their show running April 2 - 25, 2009.
- Live Action Clue! from 6 - 8 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). After the library doors are locked and it appears everyone has gone, students in grades 6 - 12 may enjoy a night of murder and intrigue. Participants will wear the hats of both detective and suspect as they move through the library after hours to discover just who did it in which room and with what weapon. - Books Over Coffee from 12-1 pm in the Lora Hussey Program Room at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Take a break, bring a sack lunch and join fellow book lovers to talk about favorite authors and their latest novel. This informal book discussion group meets the second Tuesday of each month. Coffee and treats are provided. Preregistration is not required for this drop-in program. Sessions will continue May 12, June 9 and July 14.
- In recognition of National Library WeekAuthor talk: Hoosier Author Bill J. Crane visits in the Ralph Stark Heritage Center for an author talk and book signing at 6:30 pm presented by the Lebanon Public Library. He'll be discussing his book "The First Flag on the Summit," a history of the 15th Indiana Civil War Regiment. Bill's interest in this regiment was due to the discovery of his great grandfather and at least fifteen other relatives who served in the Civil War. Bill J. Crane lives in Lafayette, Indiana where the 15th Indiana Civil War Regiment was mustered.
- Seed Exchange from 6:30 - 7 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). Planning a new family garden, but unsure how to begin? Families, with children 12 or younger, may learn the basics of gardening and score a few free seeds during this educational program. Participants are encouraged to bring flower and vegetable seeds to trade. A follow-up program will be held in the fall so families can show off their green thumbs. - Library Seeks Volunteers for Library Week Event - Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library is seeking adult volunteers to help shelf-read and straighten materials during this annual youth department clean-up event on Friday, April 17. Participants may work one 2-hour shift from 3 - 5 pm or 5:30 - 7:30 pm, and enjoy a free pizza and salad dinner from 5 - 5:30 pm. - 55th Annual Lebanon Kiwanis Pancake Supper from 4:30 - 8:00 pm in the Community Building at the Boone County Fairgrounds. All you can eat! Tickets are $6. (Children preschool age and younger are free!) $1 per ticket sold will be donated to Riley Children's Hospital.
- Spring Meeting of the Purdue Club of Boone County at the Palomino Ballroom (481 S 1200 E, Zionsville, IN). Randy Woodson, Purdue University Provost, will be speaking. Fellowship at 6:15 pm, and dinner about 6:45 pm. Election of officers and a business meeting will follow. Please feel free to bring guests and/or prospective members. Dinner is $20 per person. Everyone attending will receive a certificate of completion through the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and will count toward completion of any of the CISM venues. It will be taught by San Diego Police and Fire Chaplain Mickey Stonier.

It will be held at the Boone County Sheriff Firearms Range in Lebanon, IN. This course is designed for the novice to the experienced male or female firearms owner. Requirements include either a valid Indiana Firearms Permit or Criminal History Report verifying the student as a "Proper Person," eye and hearing protection, a suitable pistol, approximately 400 rounds of ammunition, and tuition of $150.

- Gordon Hayward Presents Fine Paintings as Inspiration for Garden Design from 2 - 3 pm in the Lora Hussey Room at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). Participants are sure to leave with new ideas about how to make their home gardens picture-perfect after visiting with nationally renowned author and garden designer Gordon Hayward. The Vermont resident will present a slide-illustrated program exploring the visual language shared by artists and garden designers. As he juxtaposes paintings and garden images, Hayward will discuss the many levels of similarity between the painter's techniques and the garden designer's construction. Following the program, Hayward will sign copies of his books, which will be available for purchase. All ages are welcome.
