The Heritage Room houses a research collection. Therefore, most items do not circulate. Duplicate copies of some items may circulate through the normal loan policy to patrons with a Lebanon Public Library card.
Our staff performs limited research using available indexed sources. Please send your name and mailing address, (e-mail if available) with your specific request including as many details as possible.
Several letters are received each week and the staff answers them in a timely manner. Some are more difficult to research and, therefore, take longer to answer. Patrons should be specific in the information they are requesting, providing as many details as possible with a limit of one surname per request. Please visit the Contact the Heritage Center webpage for contact information and allow 6 weeks for a reply.
Requests via e-mail must include your name and your home address. Please visit the Contact the Heritage Center webpage for contact information. The same fees apply to an e-mailed request as by letter.
There is a $1.00 search fee (plus copy costs and postage) for each obituary request to be sent by mail if the exact date is given, a $2.00 fee (plus copy costs and postage) if date is incorrect or unknown. For patron convenience, copies can be e-mailed. The same fees will apply as a request for obituaries by email, but there will not be a postage fee or copy costs. Obituaries may come from microfilm of Lebanon newspapers dating back as early as 1856. Microfilm copies are $0.50 per page. Staff will search a limit of five total obituary requests per inquiry.
NOTE: Many obituaries have already been indexed and the index is available under Indexes. We encourage you to search the index to minimize costs for the researcher.
For requests that require extensive searching in multiple sources there is a $10.00 research fee (plus copy costs and postage). Photocopies are .20 each and microfilm copies are .50 each. You will be billed once the total number of copies has been established. In the case of very extensive research projects, patrons may be contacted to confirm total project cost prior to printing and billing.
For patrons who would like to do research on their own, public computers and microfilm readers are freely available to use and staff is on hand to provide assistance. Patrons can use the coin-operated photocopier at a cost of $.15 per page. Documents can also be printed from a computer at a cost of $.10 a page and from the microfilm reader at a cost of $.50 a page.
