Minutes of the Lebanon Public Library Board of Trustees

February 26, 2003

President Jane Myers called the meeting to order.  Members attending were Ruth Lucas, Linda Jones, Sharon Wood, David Koehler, Huck Lewis, and Marsha Truitt.  David Truitt, Board Attorney, Dan Sulkoske from Kramer, George Piper from the Lebanon Reporter, and Kathy Raver from H.J. Umbaugh also attended.  Dan Lamar, representing our insurance company, also attended.  Aaron Smith and Mr. Walters were in the audience.

Ruth is finishing up the 2002 Treasurer’s reports.  It is a work in progress on the budget.  The assessment may only be one month late.

Claims from February 5 though February 26 were approved.  Marsha made the motion and Huck gave the second.

Dan Lamar presented an insurance update.  We had been insured through Westfield Insurance, but Dan is no longer working with that company.  Dan submitted information to different companies.  The present Library is insured for $2,726,000.  The Lawler building is currently insured for $814,977.  Most of the coverage on the Lawler building will be dropped and only liability will be carried until the building is torn down.  David Koehler made the motion and Sharon Wood gave the second to go with the insurance package from Indiana Insurance.

Huck gave the building update.  After discussion and every board member stating which design they preferred, a vote was taken.  Marsha made the motion and Ruth gave the second that we have OMS create a schematic design based on the removal of the Lawler building and the “concept” of the three story addition.  Each member was polled for his or her vote.  Linda Jones was the only Board member to vote against the building project.

In her Director’s Report, Kay spoke about Legislative Day.  She said the legislators are listening to the needs and concerns of libraries.  The Book Sale will be April 25 and 26.  Carolyn Piazza is part of a work-study program and IUPUI is paying 70% for a Masters in Library Science.  Suzanne Walker is working on the Young Adults program.  Jolene is working out well in Tech Services.  March 1, 2003 is Lebanon Public Library Day.  Activities are planned from 1-4 p.m. and hot dogs, chips, and soft drinks will be served.

Linda Jones announced that she would be resigning as President of Friends of the Library.  She also gave an accounting of money for the Friends.

The Heritage Room Policy had its second reading.  Huck made the motion and Linda gave the second to approve the policy.

Information was shared from the meeting with Perry and Worth township representatives.

The next Library Board meeting will be March 26, 2003 at 4:00 p.m.
