Minutes of the Lebanon Public Library Board of Trustees
May 24, 2006
Board President, Jane Myers, called the meeting to order. Members attending were Jane Myers, David Koehler, Kandi Caldwell and Marsha Truitt. Sharon Wood, Linda Jones, and Jon Nixon were not able to attend. Also attending were Kay Martin, Library Director, David Truitt, Library Attorney, and Dan Sulkoske of Kramer, INC.
Under correspondence, the Boone County Chamber of Commerce sent a flyer about their golf outing on June 23, 2006. Kay received a note from Rosa McDaniel-King congratulating her on her scholarship award.
The Secretary’s Report was shared. David Koehler made the motion and Kandi Caldwell gave the second to accept the report.
David Koehler gave an update on the Treasurer’s Report and said at this time we are “doing very well.”
The claims were shared. Marsha Truitt made the motion and Kandi Caldwell gave the second to pay the claims. (Claims 4085-4153.)
Dan Sulkoske gave the building update. The estimate from Tierstep to finish the upper floor was $748,161.70. Dan’s recommendation was either Tierstep lower the price or we look elsewhere. In the remodeling of the original Carnegie part of the Library, the tilework will be saved in front of the three fireplaces and two doorways and the Keystone repaired. Dan also participated in the meeting with Libby Jones as a construction supervisor to explain that the Library was not responsible for the sewer problems caused by SBC during the construction process.
David Truitt told us that we have been approached by the executor of the Ellis Estate to purchase the property. The estimated value of the property is $90,000. We need to know if the land is of adequate size for 9 parking spaces. That is the number of spaces yet required by the City in order to be able to finish the upper floor of the Library.
David Koehler told about the Circuit Breaker Law – HB 1001 – (starting 2007 payable 2008) with a maximum cap of 2% of assessed evaluation.
The Library Staff Breakfast will be June 7 to discuss the move. Kay asked that the Library be closed during the breakfast so all staff could attend. David Koehler made the motion and Kandi Caldwell gave the second to close the Library during the time of the breakfast.
Donna Boone has served as the Library’s representative on the INCOLSA Board. Since she is retiring, Kay asked that she be replaced by Connie Bruder. Marsha Truitt made the motion and Kandi Caldwell gave the second to let Connie Bruder replace Donna Boone on the INCOLSA Board.
The Boone County Chamber of Commerce has asked if the Library would like space reserved in the new Community Profile Book, Buyer’s Guide, and Member Directory. David Koehler made the motion and Kandi Caldwell gave the second for the Library to have space in these publications.
The date of the next Library Board meeting is being changed from the fourth Wednesday, June 28 to the third Wednesday, June 21.
David Koehler made the motion to adjourn and Kandi Caldwell gave the second.
