Union Township Fire Protection

As most are aware, fire/emergency protection is of great concern to the residents of Union Township. The Trustee and Advisory Board share this concern and this will be our first priority.
Fire and emergency protection is the largest expense of Union Township, by far. That is as it should be. Last year the township received only about $16,000 from property taxes for fire fighting and paid over $202,000. This means that a lot of money came from somewhere else; most of our COIT (County Option Income Tax) money, cash reserves, donations and etc.
Two things are clear. First, fire and emergency expense will increase this year, perhaps significantly over last. Second, the township will probably not have the money to pay for it and will have to borrow.
Construction of the new fire station is underway at US421 and CR 100 South. With the help of the staff of the Zionsville Fire Department we will have one of the most efficient and cost effecive stations in central Indiana. That is as it should be for the taxpayers.
