In honor of Valentine's month, we're having a Candy Bar Swap (bring in a candy bar and we'll do a candy swap). Also, we'll be doing some fun Reader's Theater and melting old crayons for an artsy, unique Valentine giveaway.

* Thursday, February 2, 2012 - It's a Mystery Book Club at 7 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 North 5th Street, Zionsville, Indiana, 46077). It's nonfiction month with our reader's choice: Patricia Cornwell's "Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper - Case Closed" or "Forty Whacks: New evidence in the Life and Legend of Lizzie Borden" by David Kent. Both books chronicle well-known crimes and criminals. You will have to read one or both to decide if you agree with the authors' conclusions. Please come for a casual discussion and light refreshments.

Shop with the Friends and take home a selection of great winter reads and movies. For the best selection, attend the Preview Sale Friday. You'll find piles of bargains and your purchases will help support future Library programs! Rock-bottom prices can be had during our Bag Sales Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday! Friday from 5 – 7 pm is the preview sale with $5 admission for adults and $2.50 for children age 12 and younger. Saturday the sale runs from 9:30 am – 5 pm with free admission and $10 bag sale from 3 – 5 pm. Sunday the sale runs 1 – 5 pm with free admission and a $5 bag sale all day.

* Monday, February 6, 2012 - Youth as Resources Grant Workshop from 6:30-7:30 pm at Thorntown Public Library (124 N. Market Street, Thorntown). The Boone County Youth as Resources grant deadline is Friday, March 9. Youth groups and adult leaders who are interested in developing a community service project and applying for a grant must attend one of the workshops. (Additional workshops will be held on Thursday, February 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lebanon, and Monday, February 13 at Hussey Mayfield Public Library in Zionsville. See those dates below for details.) Up to $500 per grant is available in Boone County for youth who identify community needs and design projects that use their skills, creativity and energy to help others. Groups may apply for funds to cover project expenses, materials, transportation and youth recognition. Youth groups must have an adult advisor and a non-profit sponsor, which may be a school, church, youth-serving or community agency. * Saturday, February 11, 2012 - Zionsville Fire Department's 12th Annual Firefighter's Ball and Awards Banquet at 6pm at the Monte Carlo Ballroom (3850 DePauw Boulevard, Indianapolis, Indiana). The awards will showcase the Firefighter of the Year, EMT of the Year, Rookie of the Year as well as other individual awards. All nominations were voted on by fellow peers for those individuals who went above and beyond throughout the year showing the true meaning of serving the Zionsville Community. Years of Service Awards will also be given to all members of the department. This year's silent auction consists of many items that were donated by community businesses. This semi-formal evening is open to the public with tickets on sale at Zionsville Fire Department Headquarters located in Zionsville Town Hall at 1100 W. Oak Street. Tickets are pre-sale only and are $50 each. VIP packages are available which include a room at the Caribbean Cove Hotel and waterpark passes for Sunday, February 12th. Shuttle service home after the event is being offered by the hotel for $10 a person to any Zionsville address! Please contact ZFD Headquarters at 317-873-5358 for VIP prices & package options. Caribbean Cove Waterpark wristbands are available even if you don't participate in any of the other activities for the Ball for $15 per person and the proceeds go towards sending children who are victims of burns to Hoosier Burn Camp this summer.

* Saturday, February 25, 2012 - Congregation Shaarey Tefilla' s Twelfth Annual Casino Night and Silent Auction from from 7:30 to 11 pm at Congregation Shaarey Tefilla (3085 West 116th Street, in Carmel). The popular event decked out in glitzy casino décor generally attracts about 300 people from the community to its licensed casino with black jack, craps, and poker, and to its silent auction, where many bargains may be had on everything from spa services, jewelry, hotel stays, sports tickets, and restaurant certificates. Tickets are $25 if purchased in advance from the synagogue office, 317-733-2169, or $30 at the door.

* Friday, Saturday, Sunday, March 16, 17 and 18, 2012 - Off-Main Street Players present the comedy-thriller "Deathtrap" at the Zionsville Town Halll (1100 West Oak Street, Zionsville). Performances are scheduled for 8 pm on Friday, at 8 pm on Saturday, and 2:30 pm on Sunday (performances are also scheduled for Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24). About the play: Sidney Bruhl is a successful writer of Broadway thrillers who has hit a literary dry spell, resulting in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break occurs when he receives a script from a student – Clifford Anderson – in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college. Sidney recognizes the thriller as a potential Broadway hit and, with help from his wife Myra, devises a plan to offer collaboration to the student. Rounding out the cast are Helga Ten Dorp, a psychic, and Sydney's attorney, Porter. For more information visit www.offmainstreetplayers.org.
